Despite the peace talks with the southern Sudanese rebels, fighting continues in the south. Sudanese troops and Arab militias continue to fight with black African Sudanese rebels in the south. There are not many casualties, but over 100,000 people have fled the violence  (which includes rape and pillage for any civilians caught by the fighters, especially the Arab militias) along the upper Nile river.
