  Turkey is pushing to get the contract signed on its new AH-1Z King Cobra attack helicopters in time for Congress to approve military aid to cover the deal before the elections. The Turkish King Cobras will differ from the US Marine AH-1Zs in several regards. They will have wheeled landing gear instead of the skids the Marines use. The aircraft will have a new fire control system by Aselsan instead of the one provided by Lockheed Martin. The Marines use T700-GE-401 engines while the Turks will use newer T700-GE-701s. The Turkish King Cobras will have a turret mounted 20mm cannon, and will be able to carry up to 16 Hellfires or up to 76 unguided 2.75 inch rockets. The aircraft will be fitted to use the Israeli NTD-Dandy air-to-surface tactical missile.--Stephen V Cole
