The last ships of the Charles F Adams class of destroyers are nearing the end of their service lives. Germany has retired the Rommel, but will keep her sisters (Molders and Lutgens) in service until they are replaced by Type-214s in 2002 and 2003. Australia has retired two of its three (Perth) and will retire the other in a few years. Greece has four ships of the class, and had planned to replace them with the four newer US ships of the Kidd class, but that deal seems to be on hold. --Stephen V Cole
