An outfit called Hacktivismo just released a new program called Camera/Shy. This software is basically a very easy to use steganography tool. That it, it allows you to hide encrypted text messages in digital image (a GIF file). Hacktivismo wants to make it easier for people to communicate if they live in nations that censor and monitor the Internet. Camera/Shy is being given away, and terrorists and criminal organizations will also probably find it useful. With that in mind, within days of the release of Camera/Shy, another outfit called NetIQ announced it had developed, and would soon ship, software that can detect and disable the use of Camera/Shy images. The NetIQ software will not be given away.
