The Air Force has asked Congress for funds to lease 100 Boeing-767s configured as tankers to replace the ancient KC-135 fleet. The Air Force would pay about $20 million per year per aircraft, plus support costs of about $2 million per year per aircraft. The planned schedule would see the first five aircraft delivered in 2005, a few more in 2006, twenty per year in 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010, and the final aircraft to complete the 100 in 2011.--Stephen V Cole
